STRATEGIES
Each of the outreach stages relies on a series of strategies including:
■ Engagement Strategy 1: Relay Model
■ Engagement Strategy 2: Statistically Valid Survey or Focus Groups
■ Engagement Strategy 3: Meeting-in-a-Box Virtual Community Listening Sessions
■ Engagement Strategy 4: Pop-up Outdoor Events or Walkshops
■ Engagement Strategy 5: Virtual Community Workshops
■ Engagement Strategy 6: Online Story Map and Questionnaires
■ Engagement Strategy 7: Legislative Process
Strategies can be updated and adapted over time as we learn from results and other opportunities to
achieve the objectives of outreach and engagement effort.
Engagement Strategy 1 : Relay Model
Overview: We propose engaging and empowering existing networks at each stage of engagement,
involving them directly in a "relay" around a carefully constructed flow of information. We will work with
the City's Board of Park Commissioners, Council of Neighborhoods, and other business and community
groups to:
■ Hone our engagement approach and materials.
■ Promote engagement opportunities via their networks, using BERK-produced messages and
communication materials.
■ Train them on gathering community members and accurately reporting the input their receive using
our "meeting in a box" materials and user-friendly reporting tools.
Relay "members": Board of Parks, Council of Neighborhoods, Chamber of Commerce, other
Engagement with the Relay Members will take the following forms:
■ Interviews: We will plan for and conduct written or verbal interviews with the Relay Members. The
purpose of these interviews is to develop a robust outreach and engagement approach and to help
identify key audiences, and potential local partners.
■ Meetings: We will attend Board of Park Commissioners and Council of Neighborhood and Chamber
of Commerce meetings either by phone or in person to share information by delivering a
presentation, gather feedback, and coordinate Relay Member engagement by providing tools,
templates, and hands-on "train the engager" sessions.
Approach: Interviews will be conducted via the phone or by email. An interview script will be used to
guide the conversation. Meetings will be conducted virtually, or if conditions allow, in-person.
1 The Council of Neighborhoods is made up of volunteer representatives from all active neighborhoods. It typically meets
monthly. During COVID-19 this group has not met. It may be possible to engage individuals to be Relay Members in the PROS
Plan effort.
' 1{ 12
