Sullivan Park Fire Station Conversion
Draft Environmental Assessment
(Conversion Site area),418.05,418.08,416.05, and 416.06. These census tracts
encompass the area of South Everett within approximately 0.5 mile of the
Conversion Site and Replacement Site(Appendix A,Figure 4.2-1).
Because the Conversion Site and Replacement Site are located within the same
area of South Everett encompassed by the identified census tracts, the discussion
on socioeconomic and environmental justice conditions associated with the
Conversion Site and Replacement Site is combined in certain areas to reduce
redundancy.
4.2.1 Existing Demographic Profile
According to the 2010 U.S. Census, there are approximately 33,130 people living
in the surrounding area of the Replacement Site and the Conversion Site. Table
4.2-1 provides a summary of demographic characteristics for each of the above
referenced census tracts, as well as a comparison with data for the City of Everett
and Snohomish County.
As illustrated in Table 4.2-1,the area surrounding the sites generally has a larger
percentage of minorities than the City of Everett or Snohomish County. The age
of the population in the sites area is generally similar to the City of Everett and
Snohomish County, as the percent of the population that is under 18 years or
over 65 years is within approximately one percent. The median household
income for the sites is greater than that of the City of Everett and Snohomish
County, while the percentage of population below the poverty level is greater
than that of Snohomish County, but less than that of the City of Everett.
A direct comparison between the Replacement Site area(Tract 418.06) and the
Conversion Site area(417.01) shows that the Replacement Site area has a greater
minority population and a slightly greater percentage of people under age 18
and below the poverty level, while the Conversion Site area has a greater
percentage of people over age 65. Median household income levels are virtually
the same for each site area.
Page 16
