Example Plan: South Everett Forest Preserve Master Plan (Attachment C)
Maintenance and asset management is integral to sustainable capital facilities planning and Perteet
included maintenance and asset management considerations into the S. Everett Forest Preserve Master
Plan. Maintenance management considerations for the park were evaluated including efficiency
recommendations for park structures and materials. An environmental analysis was also completed,
inclusive of a wetland and stream assessment and with vegetation management recommendations to
obviate the need for pesticide usage and to utilize earth-friendly practices. Maintenance considerations
were integrated into the design goals to develop a park that is cost effective and takes into
consideration long-term maintenance and operation of facilities, to address crime prevention goals, and
also in consideration of life cycle costs of park improvements. The plan was prepared to address the
conclusions of a prior NEPA EA that identified that a lack of public and operational access to the site was
a hinderance to maintenance and public safety. A vegetation management and native vegetation
restoration plan was also prepared under this effort (Master Plan Page 17 and 18) to address removal
of invasive plant species and to establish low-maintenance native vegetation suitable for a park in the
context of forested wetlands and buffers, and directly adjacent to Silver Lake Creek. We understand
the maintenance plan prepared for the PROS effort would further define the maintenance actions and
frequency of maintenance of the site features implemented for this park (e.g. kiosk, picnic table, benches,
vault trash receptacle, trail surfacing, and vegetation management pursuant to Crime Prevention through
Environmental Design standards).
Please see Attachment C: Example Park Maintenance Management Plan.
8.
