Asbestos includes asbestiform varieties of
chrysotile(serpentine);crocidolite(riebeckite);amosite(cummingtonite-grunerite);anthophyllite;tremolite,and actinolite.
Inhalation of asbestos fibers has been linked to diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
All asbestos sampling performed by Environix is carried out pursuant to 40 CFR 763.86 as required by both AHERA and
ASHARA.
NOTES AND TERMS:
• Homogeneous Sampling Area-An areas of suspected asbestos containing building materials which appears similar
throughout in color, texture, and date of material application.
•Thermal System Insulation-Material applied to pipes, fittings, boilers, breechings, tanks, ducts,or other interior structural
components to prevent heat loss or gain,or water condensation,or for other purposes.
•Surfacing Material-Material that is sprayed-on,troweled-on,of otherwise applied to surfaces, such as acoustical plaster on
ceilings and fireproofing materials on structural members,or other materials on surfaces for acoustical, fireproofing,or other
purposes.
• Miscellaneous Material-Interior building material on structural components, structural members or fixtures, such as floor
and ceiling tiles, and does not include thermal system insulation or surfacing materials.
INTERPRETING YOUR RESULTS:
• ND: None detected. No asbestos fibers were detected. Therefore,no additional precautions are necessary.
•<1.0%:When asbestos is detected below 1%(and above zero),a certified asbestos contractor is not necessary. However,
asbestos regulations do require specialized protective equipment and containment of the work area. Please reference Puget
Sound Clean Air Agency for specific regulations.
• 1.0%-2.0%. Considered an asbestos containing material. If your sample results were between 1.0-2.0%,you have the
option of reanalyzing the sample using a point counting technique. Point counting often results in an asbestos content of
<1%,thereby eliminating the need for a certified asbestos contractor.
• >2.0%. Considered an asbestos containing material. Point counting can be utilized, however;it rarely achieves a result
under the 1%threshold. A certified asbestos contractor will be required to remove or disturb these materials.
Copywrite 2017
