Not only is this ordinance inhumane, but cruel. Where are homeless people expected to go when they are not only prohibited from sitting and lying, but also prohibited from being provided the resources they desperately need? How are you the city of Everett, going to compensate in shelter and resources for unhoused people in place of this ordinance? Especially during a pandemic, how is it right to punish these people who are not only failed by the system but now failed by their community who is supposed to help them. Since when are we criminalizing homelessness? This ordinance is essentially punishing the existence of homelessness, placing the blame on the individual, rather than addressing the multitude of issues that contribute and add to the spread of homeless.
