Simple Heating System Size: Washington State
This heating system sizing calculator is based on the Prescriptive Requirements of the 2015 Washington State Energy Code (WSEC) and ACCA
Manuals J and S. This calculator will calculate heating loads only. ACCA procedures for sizing cooling systems should be used to determine cooling
loads.
Please fill out all of the green drop -downs and boxes that are applicable to your project. As you make selections in the drop -downs for each section,
some values will be calculated for you. If you do not see the selection you need in the drop -down options, please call the WSU Energy Extension
Program at (360) 956-2042 for assistance.
Project Information Contact Information
Dosunmu AFH Addition
Heating System Type: o All Other systems O Heat Pump
To see detailed instructions for each section, place your cursor on the word "Instructions".
Design Temperature
- Design Temperature Difference (AT)
ell IC
AT =Indoor (70 degrees) -Outdoor Design Temp
Area of Building
Conditioned Floor Area
Conditioned Floor Area (sq ft)
3,587
Average Ceiling Height
Conditioned Volume
Average Ceiling Height (ft)
8.4
29,951
Glazing and Doors
U-Factor
X Area =
UA
28
..
0.280
424
118.66
SkVlights
U-Factor
X Area =
UA
0.50
o
---
Insulation
Attic
U-Factor
X Area =
UA
0.026
1,434
37.28
Single Rafter or Joist Vaulted Ceilings
U-Factor
X Area
UA
0.027
80
2.16
Above Grade Walls (see Route n
U-Factor
X Area
UA
0.056
2,780
155.68
Floors
U-Factor
X Area
UA
N 38
0.025
777
19.43
Below Grade Walls (see Figure 1)
U-Factor
X Area
UA
0.042
305
12.81
-•:cam ut._s..i
Slab Below Grade (seeFiourel)
F-Factor
X Length
UA
N.i M1emuf 8 eat L ab edge
0.570
61
34.77
Slab on Grade (see Figure 'r)
F-Factor
X Length
UA
N ,u N. ,,,n .
.9
0.540
83
44.82
Location of Ducts
Duct Leakage Coefficient
lln[nnf S,
m
-
1.10
Sum of UA
425.61
Figure 1.
Abolre Grade
47
Envelope Heat Load 20,004 Btu / Hour
Sum of UA X AT
Air Leakage Heat Load 15,203 Btu / Hour
volume x 0.6 X AT X .018
Building Design Heat Load 35,207 Btu / Hour
Air Leakage + Envelope Heat Loss
Building and Duct Heat Load 38,728 Btu / Hour
Ducts in unconditioned space: Sum of Building Heat Loss X 1.10
Ducts in conditioned space: Sum of Building Heat Loss X 1
Maximum Heat Equipment Output 54,219 Btu I Hour
Building and Duct Heat Loss X 1.40 for Forced Air Furnace
Building and Duct Heat Loss X 1.25 for Heat Pump (/. //
(07/01/13)
