Please see the roof framing plans for the noted framing, and
the attached photographs for reference.
8. The Roof Framing Plan on Sheet S21.02 shows new 4x8 beams and appears to show
unspecified connections at the beam-to-beam connections. The make and model of the
connections should be specified. Note that the beam west of the mechanical chase
opening does not appear to show connections. See IBC Section 1603.1, 1604.1, and
1604.4.
ANSWER: Please see the revised plans for the noted connections.
Lateral:
9. The Roof and Elevator Roof Plans on Sheet S21.02 reference Sections 6/S40.01,
8/S50.01, and 12/S50.01 for the elevator shaft construction. The sections reference the
plans for the shaft wall construction, which does not appear to be specified. The
elevator penthouse should be provided with a vertical lateral system. See IBC Sections
1603.1, 1604.1, 1604.4, 1609.1, ad 1613.1, and ASCE 7-10 Chapters 13 and 16.
ANSWER; Please see the revised plans for the lateral elements. Additionally,
please see the supplemental structural calculations for the lateral analysis of
the elevator doghouse.
Miscellaneous:
10.The project includes installation of an elevator at Grid D.5/3 on Sheet S00.01. The
following comments should be addressed:
a. The design loads for the elevator system, including impact loading, should be
specified in the"Design Criteria"section of the General Structural Notes on Sheet S.
When actual design loads are not available, estimated design loads should be
specified for the design, and verified when the elevator design drawings are
submitted for review. See IBC Sections 1603.1.8 and 1607.9.1.
b. The connections between the elevator guide rails and the structural framing are
typically the responsibility of the engineer-of-record for the building system. At a
minimum, connection details between the rail bracket and structural framing (e.g.,
embedment plates at the concrete walls, etc.) are required. Calculations and details
for the elevator connections to the structural framing should be submitted for
review. The design shall consider concurrent multi-directional loading as determined
by the elevator manufacturer. The required locations and maximum spacing for the
connection points should be specified in the structural drawings. See IBC Section
107.2.1 and 1604.4.
c. Continuing with the previous comment, the structural drawings appear to require
additional details to connect the HSS columns to the main building and develop the
