EVERETT <br /> WASHINGTON <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7624 <br /> A RESOLUTION of Everett City Council changing the name of Broadway(between Tower Street <br /> and North Broadway)to Trojan Way <br /> WHEREAS, <br /> A. Everett Community College has used the Trojan symbol for student spirit and college athletics <br /> for 78 years. <br /> B. Everett Community College has requested that the City change the name of Broadway between <br /> North Broadway and Tower Street(commonly referred to as"Little" Broadway)to "Trojan <br /> Way," as shown on the attached map. This portion of street is near and adjacent to Everett <br /> Community College. <br /> C. Those individuals and businesses that would be immediately impacted by the renaming of the <br /> street have indicated their support for this request. <br /> D. Pat Sisneros,Vice President of College Services for Everett Community College, has endorsed <br /> this request. <br /> E. The Transportation Advisory Committee has recommended approval of this request. <br /> F. The Historical Commission,after providing notice and following its public process, has <br /> recommended approval of this request. <br /> G. The City Council in 2012 adopted Resolution 6537 "A Resolution Establishing a Policy on Public <br /> Place Names and Name Changes." The City Council has considered the criteria under Section 3 <br /> of that 2012 resolution and finds that the changing the street name to "Trojan Way" meets the <br /> applicable criteria. For example.the City Council finds that <br /> 1. The new name will reflect the street's geographical location near Everett Community <br /> College. <br /> 2. The new name will reflect the historical and cultural significance of Everett Community <br /> College to the City of Everett. <br /> 3. Everett Community College has enhanced the quality of life within the City of Everett, <br /> and so naming a street after the symbol of Everett Community College is appropriate. <br />
