The contractor informed Rep
that they used ten super -sacks of Portland cement powder to treat the backfill used today. Rep took compaction tests over the
cement treated backfill but was unable to obtain compaction results over 82% of the maximum dry density due to the high
moisture content of the soil. Rep observed that the backfill was compacted solid and it did not yield or pump beneath the
weight of the excavator and bulldozer operating in the excavation today. Given this observation and considering the
application of cement amendment to the backfill exceeded our expectations and recommendations the backfill is considered
to have been adequately amended and compacted. Rep will return to observe and test compaction of the cement treated
remediation backfill. Rep observed the remedial excavation was stable in its current configuration and condition. It is
recommended that Rep be notified immediately if any changes in the slope conditions are observed. It is the responsibility of
the contractor to perform all necessary safety measures in accordance with state and federal regulations. ESNW rep will
return daily to observe the condition of the temporarily over -steepened shoring excavation.
ESNW Rep will return when requested.
Emmett Hartley, G.I.T.
ESNW Field Tech—
(206) 376-4906
7 ;
w 4=
