•
•
•
•
CONSOLIDATION TESTING •
Consolidation testing was performed on a selected sample of soil in general conformance with •
ASTM D 2435. This test determines the magnitude and rate of consolidation of soil when it is
restrained laterally and drained axially while subjected to incrementally applied controlled-stress •
loading. The test results are used to estimate the magnitude and rate of settlement of the site •
soils under a specific increase in effective stress. The test results are presented in this appendix. •
DENSITY •
We determined the density of an undisturbed soil sample in general accordance with •
ASTM D 7263. The density was determined by measuring the weight of a known volume of soil
and then dividing the weight of a soil sample by its known volume. The test results are
•
presented in this appendix.
•
GRAIN-SIZE TESTING •
Grain-size testing was performed on selected soil samples to determine the distribution of soil •
particle sizes. The testing consisted of sieve analyses (percent passing a range of U.S. Standard •
sieve sizes) and percent fines determinations (percent passing the U.S. Standard No. 200 Sieve).
The sieve analyses were completed in general accordance with ASTM C 117 and ASTM C 136. •
The percent fines determinations were completed in general accordance with ASTM D 1 140 •
(P200). The percent fines is the ratio of the dry weight of the material passing the U.S. Standard •
No. 200 Sieve to the dry weight of the overall sample. Test results are presented in this •
appendix.
•
MOISTURE CONTENT •
We determined the natural moisture content of selected samples obtained from the explorations •
in general accordance with ASTM D 2216. The natural moisture content is a ratio of the weight •
of the water to soil in a test sample and is expressed as a percentage. The moisture contents are
presented in this appendix. •
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
G EO DESIGN?
