a continuation at Hospital, or whose conduct interferes with the proper operation of Hospital. In the event that <br />an EMS provider is also an employee of Hospital and is terminated for cause from employment, EMS provider <br />shall also be immediately terminated from continuing in the program. <br />1.5. Emergency Care. Hospital shall provide necessary emergency care or first aid required by an <br />accident occurring at Hospital for EMS providers participating under the teens of this Agreement, and, except <br />as herein provided, Hospital shall have no obligation to furnish medical or surgical care to any EMS provider <br />The EMS provider bears responsibility for the cost of such care as well as any follow-up care. <br />1.6. Regulations. Hospital will provide the EMS provider with access to the written regulations that <br />will govern the EMS provider's activities while at Hospital. Hospital shall also provide the EMS provider with <br />Hospital specific policies, including those relating to the Deficit Reduction Act and Hospital s Fraud and Abuse <br />Prevention and Detection Pohcies. <br />1.7. Records and Reports. Hospital will maintain records and reports on each EMS provider's <br />performance as specified by each program and provide an evaluation to the EMS Agency on forms provided by <br />the EMS Agency. <br />2. Responsibilities of the EMS Agency <br />2.1. Publications. The EMS Agency will prohibit the publication by the EMS providers any <br />material relative to their clinical learning experience that has not been approved for release for publication by <br />both Hospital and the EMS Agency. <br />2.2. Clinical Experiences. It shall be the responsibility of the academic coordinator of clinical <br />education of the EMS Agency, after consultation with Hospital, to help plan the clinical educational program for <br />EMS provider clinical experiences. EMS Agency is ultimately responsible for the Clinical Education <br />Program, academic affairs, and the assessment of medical EMS providers. <br />2.3. Program Description. EMS Agency will provide Hospital with an annual announcement or <br />description of the program, curriculum, and objectives to be achieved at Hospital. <br />2.4. EMS Provider Compliance. EMS Agency will assure that EMS providers abide by the <br />policies of Hospital while using Hospital facilities mcluding policies specific to EMS providers and those related <br />to confidentiality of patient information. EMS Agency shall provide EMS providers with training on the <br />requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Hospital will provide <br />additional training on Hospital -specific HIPAA policies and procedures EMS Agency shall immediately <br />report any errors in accordance with Hospital procedures. EMS Agency will assure that EMS providers do not <br />copy or remove confidential information from Hospital premises. EMS providers will be expected to conduct <br />themselves in a professional manner; their attire as well as their appearance will confolui to the accepted <br />standards of Hospital. EMS Agency will assure that EMS providers are educated regarding universal <br />precautions, blood -borne pathogens, and other appropriate OSHA standards prior to coming to Hospital. <br />2.5. Qualifications. Paramedics complete an intensive 3,000 hours' worth of instruction and hand - <br />on training. Paramedics are required to complete 50 hours annually of medical education. Paramedics are, at a <br />minimum, ACLS and PALS certified and have completed at least 4 hours of Infectious Prevention education <br />each year. The Washington State Emergency Medical Technician training consists of 150 hours of classroom <br />and practical laboratory training plus a minimum of 10 additional hours of in -hospital observation. The <br />emergency medical technician (the EMT ') learns roles and responsibilities for both emergency medical care <br />and operational aspects of the job. The EMS Agency develops skills in patient evaluation and all emergency <br />treatment procedures as required by Washington State laws. The EMT demonstrates a knowledge of anatomy, <br />2 <br />
