1 3.
amec
foster
wheeler
It should be noted that the explorations performed and used for this evaluation reveal subsurface
conditions only at discrete locations across the project site, and that actual conditions in other
locations could vary. Furthermore, the nature and extent of these variations would not become evident
until additional explorations are performed or until construction activities have begun. If significant
variations are observed, we may need to modify the conclusions and recommendations contained in
1 this report to reflect actual site conditions encountered.
3.0 SITE CONDITIONS
This section presents our observations, measurements, findings, and interpretations regarding
existing development, surface, soil, groundwater, and seismic conditions at the project site.
3.1 SURFACE CONDITIONS
The school campus is generally divided into three sections: north, central and south areas. The
northern and central sections are separated by a 1- to 4-foot-high concrete retaining wall. The
northern section of the campus contains the athletic fields. The central section houses the main
campus, which comprises school building structures, bus lanes, and two small parking lots. The
southern section contains a parking lot and tennis courts.
All three sections of the school campus are relatively level. Elevation around the outer perimeter of
the northern section averages 81 feet and increases to approximately elevation 82 feet at the center
of the athletic field. The central section dips gently from elevations 80 feet at the east property line to
elevations 76 feet at the west property line. The southern section dips gently east to west from
elevation 79 to 75.5.
Based on our review of the original limited grading plans provided, our exploration results, and visual
assessment, it appears that topography at the school campus was balanced by a series of cuts and
fills. Soil cut from the north-northeastern portion of the athletic fields appears to have been placed in
the south and southwest area of the fields. Our explorations indicate 5 feet of fill had been placed on
the athletic fields. The central area of the site containing the school buildings also appears to have
been leveled and graded through a series of minor cuts and fills. Our explorations indicate
approximately 3 feet of fill was placed in the vicinity of the small parking lot at the southwest corner of
the school campus. A review of an earlier site survey indicates fill up to 5 feet thick was placed in the
south portion of the site. The parking lot and tennis courts south of 26th Street appear to have been
graded with approximately 5.5 feet of fill placed to reach existing grade.
Amec Foster Wheeler
Project No.6-917-18116-0 3
111 \\Sea-fs1\WordProc\ Projects\18000s\18116 Everett School District\Geotech Report\Revised\2017_10-19_Everett Middle School Geotech_Sx.docx
