Edmonds — Aiming for July. Does use Zoom. Moves the community members in to the meeting to speak.
Faces not just call in. plans to continue to allow.
Lynnwood- Aiming for July. Does use Zoom. Moves the community members in to the meeting to speak.
Faces not just call in. plans to continue to allow.
Sound Transit — not a lot of community participation. Uses Zoom. Looking at 15t part of September. Still
trying to establish a plan.
Olympia City Council — looking to meet in person Target date - July. Currently Nonprofit paid by peg fees from
pooled city and county resources run meetings. Due to the increase of meetings, boards and subcommittees,
technology to upgrade is needed to train staff how to run cameras. Will continue to use Zoom to all their
Council Executive Assistant (Yes, she really has the same title I do )) to move those constituents who wish to
continue to call in after council returns to live meetings.
FIRST SURVEY RESULTS:
Paul — Wants to wait until it is clear about safe behavior and safe protocol. Current system clunky but
functional. Would it be better to go live then our current process? Considering the day meeting staying
remote. Doesn't feel need to rush. Would be comfortable depending on what we know waiting until after
Labor Day in September before returning to chambers.
Scott B. Ready to come back anytime. However willing to wait what it takes to accommodate a smooth
transition such as September after Labor Day. Likes the idea of 4th meeting of month being remote. Would
like attorney or appropriate person to answer if it would be acceptable for a council member to be able to call
in to participate if there was an issue such as mobility(like after surgery) where they are capable of
participating but unable to appear in person.
Scott M.- June 30 would be a good target date. The community missing out by not meeting in person. By
opportunity to engage with the city council and it is more challenging to provide input and participate in public
process. Would be good with allowing them to continue to participate remotely Would love to see the day
meeting be a remote meeting. Would still be interested in meeting even if community could not if it allowed
virtual technology.
Jeff M. — Prefer to begin in September after Labor Day but air on the side of caution. Community and Council
return to chambers at the same time. Two should align. Would rather have one of the evening meetings
remote and keep the day meeting live. Would prefer live with email instead of remote and live at the same
time. Believe the comments of those who were unable to attend but participated by email have their
comments read in to record. Would like to make sure the air quality in chambers in compliance and if not,
utilize FEMA dollars to make it so by adding filters or whatever is needed. (current guidelines are 6 air
exchanges an hour). CRC currently allows public to return to facility socially distanced. Offers there is the
possibility of utilizing the CRC if the Chambers is not suitable to allow public participation due to larger space,
dependent on needs assessment.
Liz V. — Anytime after Governor says ok. Prefer everyone be vaccinated (if possible) including staff and
constituents. Would not be comfortable if the community was not allowed to attend. Would love 4th meeting
remain remote. Most important is being able to see the community and the council visually whether on teams
or in person. Likes the idea of reading the comments in their entirety if mailed in. Would like to see the
community members live or in person continue to speak under public comment at the beginning of the
meeting.
