I Ii The Contractor may choose to utilize recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in the production 2 of HMA. The RAP may be from pavements removed under the Contract, if any, or 3 pavement material from an existing stockpile. I 4 5 The Contractor may use up to 20 percent RAP by total weight of HMA with no additional 6 sampling or testing of the RAP. The RAP shall be sampled and tested at a frequency of I 7 one sample for every 1,000 tons produced and not less than ten samples per project. 8 The asphalt content and gradation test data shall be reported to the Contracting Agency 9 when submitting the mix design for approval on the QPL. The Contractor shall include 10 the RAP as part of the mix design as defined in these Specifications. I11 12 The grade of asphalt binder shall be as required by the Contract. Blending of asphalt I13 binder from different sources is not permitted. 14 15 The Contractor may only use warm mix asphalt (WMA) processes in the production of I 16 HMA with 20 percent or less RAP by total weight of HMA. The Contractor shall submit to 17 the Engineer for approval the process that is proposed and how it will be used in the 18 manufacture of HMA. I 19 20 Production of aggregates shall comply with the requirements of Section 3-01. 21 Preparation of stockpile site, the stockpiling of aggregates, and the removal of I 22 aggregates from stockpiles shall comply with the requirements of Section 3-02. 23 24 5-04.2(1) How to Get an HMA Mix Design on the QPL I 25 26 If the contractor wishes to submit a mix design for inclusion in the Qualified Products List (QPL), please follow the WSDOT process outlined in Standard Specification 5-04.2(1). 27 I 28 5-04.2(2) Mix Design — Obtaining Project Approval 29 No paving shall begin prior to the approval of the mix design by the Engineer. 30 I31 Nonstatistical evaluation will be used for all HMA not designated as Commercial HMA 32 in the contract documents. I 33 34 Commercial evaluation will be used for Commercial HMA and for other classes of HMA 35 in the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, ditches, slopes, paths, trails, I 36 gores, prelevel, and pavement repair. Other nonstructural applications of HMA accepted 37 by commercial evaluation shall be as approved by the Project Engineer. Sampling and 38 testing of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation will be at the option of the Project 39 Engineer. The Proposal quantity of HMA that is accepted by commercial evaluation will' 40 be excluded from the quantities used in the determination of nonstatistical evaluation. 41 42 Nonstatistical Mix Design. Fifteen days prior to the first day of paving the contractor I 43 shall provide one of the following mix design verification certifications for Contracting 44 Agency review; 45 I 46 • The WSDOT Mix Design Evaluation Report from the current WSDOT QPL, or 47 one of the mix design verification certifications listed below.
