Subsurface Exploration, Geologic Hazards,
View Ridge Community Church Addition and Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett, Washington Project and Site Conditions
2.0 PROJECT AND SITE DESCRIPTION
The project site consists of an existing parcel (Parcel No. 00449500009300), with an
approximate total area of about 0.54 acres, located at 4800 Dogwood Drive, in Everett,
Washington. We understand that the proposed project involves the construction of a two-story
addition on the west side of the existing church. The new addition would have a footprint of
about 1,200 square feet and situated approximately 25 to 35 feet from the top of a steep slope
area to the west. We also understand that the City of Everett is requiring a geotechnical study
to provide recommendations for an appropriate steep slope buffer and setback per the Everett
Municipal Code (EMC) Title 19 Chapter 37.080.
The existing church building on the site is a two-story wood -framed structure about 3,400
square feet in size. The areas to the west and south of the church consist of lawn, a paved
parking lot to the north, and Dogwood Drive is located along the east side of the property.
Beyond the lawn area west of the church, a moderately vegetated steep slope descends to
Dogwood -Elm Creek. Based on review of an existing topographic survey for the church
property dated August 26, 2004, the slope ranges in height from 8 to 18 feet. The existing
church is approximately 45 to 55 feet from the top of the steep slope.
3.0 SUBSURFACE EXPLORATION
We completed a hollow -stem auger boring at the location shown on Figure 2. The boring was
completed by advancing a 4%-inch inside -diameter, hollow -stem auger with a trailer -mounted
drill rig. During the drilling process, samples were obtained at depths of 2.5 and 5 feet, and
subsequently at 5-foot-depth intervals to a depth of 20 feet. The exploration boring was
continuously observed and logged by a geotechnical engineer from our firm. The various types
of soils, as well as the depths where characteristics of the soils changed, are indicated on the
exploration log presented in Appendix A of this report. The exploration log is based on the field
log, drilling action and review of the samples collected. Our exploration was approximately
located by measuring from known site features shown on the drawing that was provided to us.
Because of the nature of exploratory work, extrapolation of subsurface conditions outside of
the field exploration point is necessary. Differing subsurface conditions may be present due to
the random nature of natural sediment deposition, and the alteration of topography by past
grading and filling. The nature and extent of any variations outside of the field exploration may
not become fully evident until construction. If variations are observed at the time of
construction, it may be necessary to re-evaluate specific recommendations in this report and
make appropriate changes.
August 29, 2016 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES, INC.
SKL11d - KE160351A2 - Projects20160351JKEJWP Page 2
