a
Mr. Douglas Acheson
2506 Baker Avenue
Plan Check Number: B2005-039, First Building Review
June 9, 2020
e. Connections between the existing deck framing and posts.
f. Connections between the posts and glulam beams.
g. Connections between the roof decking and glulam beams, including uplift from wind and
unbalanced wind and snow loading on the cantilever.
8. The space under the roof is unheated, and the roof is susceptible to snow drifts from the
adjacent building roof. The snow load on the roof should be calculated per ASCE 7-10 Chapter
7. Unbalanced loads and drifts per Sections 7.6 and 7.7, respectively, should be considered in
the design. See IBC Section 1608.1.
9. The following comments should be addressed for the post-to-glulam beam connection detail:
a. The framing is fastened together using 3/8-inch bolts. The minimum spacing, edge, and
end distances for the bolts should be specified. See IBC Section 2306.1 and AWC NDS-15
Section 12.5.
b. The connection appears to include a 6-inch side spacer between the post and roof decking.
The intended construction should be clarified. Additional fasteners should be specified as
required. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1603.1.
10. The roof construction appears to expose the ends of the glulam beams to weather. The beams
should be naturally -durable or preservative -treated wood unless they are provided with a water-
proof covering. Where coverings are intended, details for the construction should be included
in the construction drawings. See IBC Section 2304.12.2.4.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers -of -record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer / Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
O3200
Cedar Street
425.257.8810
everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett, WA 98201
425.257.8857 fax
everettwa.gov/permits
e3o
