<br />While you didn't mention whether food is provided without compensation, I assume that given the nature of this program, there is no
<br />monetary transaction here. If this is the case, and only participating members of the organization are served food, then I view this as
<br />a private event, which doesn't not meet the definition of a food establishment, which therefore does not need a permit.
<br />1'd be more than happy to speak with you further if you have additional questions, or would like guidance with keeping food safety in
<br />mind when designing your kitchen. I've attached our minimum equipment requirements to this email to use if you wish.

<br />Thanks for talking with me.
<br />The Recovery Cafe is a great deal more than a cafe, in fact, it is really not a cafe. The "cafe" aspect is just one of the many tools we
<br />use to help those in need that desire to change their present lives. We reach out to those that are suffering from addiction, trauma,
<br />homelessness and mental health problems. We have members and membership requirements which are to be drug and alcohol
<br />free for twenty fours hours, participate in our recovery programs, and our activities. If the member does not follow these
<br />requirements, their privileges are revoked. We are open from noon to 4PM, 5 days a week and serve a hot meal, such as soup,
<br />stew or chili, some fruit and cookies and lots of coffee. The activities and recovery programs, based on peer support research, are
<br />the main focus of our cafe because, it is with these aids, that our members can begin to find some self worth and learn some skills
<br />to be able to participate in the joys of life. Not an easy task for someone who feels downtrodden and worthless. A warm meal, a hot
<br />cup of coffee, and a hug goes a long way towards an attitude realignment. There is no place for a lot of these people to go during
<br />the day. We provide a haven that, if they participate in our programs and activities, they can find hope. We fill a gap between
<br />treatmentfjail and the long term recovery community.
<br />We are going to be moving into the basement of the Public Market Building and are trying to get a building permit. The main hold up
<br />has been the kitchen. We are not a commercial operation, and want to be able to use simple, inexpensive and decent equipment
<br />that does not require extra special construction like a regular restaurant. We have been donated a new stove and hood that came
<br />from one of our supporters; its residential equipment that doesn't need special construction. Our main source of funding the
<br />construction is through individuals and donations such as these.
<br />Your help is greatly needed with the building department.
