I haven't performed a thorough review of the hood submittal at this point, which
actually haven't been approved yet. But this does help. As previously noted, my commentary is primarily to ensure that
there isn't a hole in the design between the two submittals.
Specifically regarding exterior supports, this is typically required when there is a long duct run. If the hood is extending
horizontally from the wall and is capped with a heavy end piece, some level of framing may still be required. Again, if
this is covered in the mechanical drawings, no problem. As a final comment, a general reference to SMACNA standards
may not be sufficient if the weight is large (say, more than 50 Ibs). For heavier weights, some detailing and design per
ASCE 7-10 Section 13.6 should be performed.
I'll be in Monday afternoon, so give me a heads-up when the drawings have been delivered. I've got our assist ready to
help me collate the drawings.
Drew Martin, P.E.,S.E.
im
iim Associate Engineer—Commercial Plans Examiner I Permit Services
425.257.8813 13200 Cedar Street, 2nd Floor, Everett,WA 98201
EVERETT Hours: M/W/Th/F: 7:30am-12:00pm & 1:00pm-3:00pm;Tu: 1:0Opm-3:OOpm
everettwa.gov I Facebook I Twitter
1
