From:Johnathon Cave<jcave@clarkbarnes.com>
Sent: Friday, December 4, 2020 12:41 PM
To: Drew Martin<dmartin@everettwa.gov>
Cc:Suzanne Salandi<ssalandi@clarkbarnes.com>
Subject: RE: Permit#B2008-003-Architectural Drawing Set
Hi Drew,
For clarification, the ducts are no longer routing to the roof as originally designed. All hood equipment is
located at grade next to the walk-in cooler, away from the building, meaning the ducts will not be traveling up
along the exterior of the building to the roof.
As for the Type-1 duct specifically, once the duct penetrates the exterior of the building, it will be extending a
minimum of 18"from the face of the building, giving us our required minimum clearance from combustible
surfaces. Please refer to drawing QF804 showing this condition. As for maintaining the fire wrap, I can ask the
mechanical engineer to provide a detail for how the duct wrap will be transitioning to the 18" fire pad. This pad
will be flashed and protected, which we can again provided a detail for if required.
Again, because the Type-1 duct is now routing away from the building and no longer running along the
exterior of the building to the roof, I was not aware that the additional support and bracing related to the
hoods would need to be shown in the architectural drawings, as those items are already noted in the separate
hood permit set as "duct hangars and supports per SMACNA HVAC duct construction standards". Reference
sheet QF800.
We will revise detail 8/A9.1 to include the fastener specifications.
Thanks,
Johnathon Cave
Interior Designer
CLARK I BARNES.
1401 West Garfield Street, Seattle,WA 98119
O (206) 782.8208 ext. 814 I D (206) 259.2612
www.clarkbarnes.com
From: Drew Martin<dmartin@everettwa.gov>
Sent: Friday, December 4, 2020 10:43 AM
To:Johnathon Cave<jcave@clarkbarnes.com>
Cc:Tim Platt<timp@bethanynw.org>
Subject: RE: Permit# B2008-003-Architectural Drawing Set
Jonathan,
I see two issues that need to be addressed:
1. The plan for the Type 1 duct does not clearly indicate how the wrap is maintained through the wall. In addition,
it is anticipated that the duct is running up the exterior of the wall. This is fine, but the duct needs to have
protection until the 18" clearance is provided. The wrap is not designed to be exposed, so it will need to be
2
