See
IRC Section 30113.
Response: This is a residential structure designed under the IRC.The lateral design is a component of the design that was
engineered,as permitted by section 301.1.3.Please see the updated notes for clarification.
■ Comment 3:The vertical load path for the proposed roof includes supportbythe existing structure on the west side, Details for
the proposed connections, including modifications to the interior wall covering to instal/blocking,should be included in the
construction drawings Calculations substantiating the connections should be submitted for review, See IRC Section 106.11 and
IBC Section 10721.
Response: Modifications to the interior wall covering to instal blocking shal be made under the discretion of the builder or
architect. The worst case vertical loading of a post that is fastened back to the existing structure is approximately 2.2 kips.As
speared by the structural plans, the covered porch posts adjacent to the existing structure are to be fastened to the existing
structure with(1)Y4"x6"SDS screw @ 12"o.c.Assuming an 8 foot plate height,a minimum of 9 screws shall be utilized in the
connection, which has a capacity of 2.5 kips. This translates to approximately 275 lb per screw.A note has been added to the
plan to clarify that the 2x blocking shall be fastened to adjacent studs w/(3).131"x3"long toenais at each side, which has the
capacity to transfer the load back into the wall studs,as required. Therefore, the connections are sufficient in transferring any
vertical load from the covered patio addition to the existing wall and into the existing foundation below.
