Elevation 15/S-321 references Detail 17/S-321, which is not provided.
d. Detail 18/S-321 shows a WT connected to the existing beam, with the WT-flange
overlapping the existing beam bottom flange. The calculations show the WT-web
connected to the flange.
e. Detail 16/S-321 shows a WT connected to the existing beam. The orientation should be
verified.
f. Calculations for the connection in Details 8/S-321 and 13/S-321 should be submitted.
g. The design requires multiple braces to be supported by existing beams. Calculations for
beams supporting brace loads should be submitted for review.
h. The penthouse design considers only seismic loading. Wind loading should be evaluated,
especially in the transverse direction.
37. The support framing for the cooling tower is shown on Sheet S-206, Partial Plan 14/S-251, and
Details 11/S-603 and 16/S-603. Calculations are provided in Section 1.5. See IBC Sections
1603.1, 1604.1, and 1604.4. The following comments should be addressed:
a. The calculations specify standard P6 for posts. The post size does not appear to be
specified in the drawings.
b. One W8x24 does not overall a post at the corner of frame per Plan 14/S-251. The plan
should be reviewed and revised as needed.
c. Calculations should be submitted verifying the capacities of the existing roof beams and
columns on Grids D and E supporting the tower.
d. The section for the center beam in Plan 14/S-251 is not specified. The beam appears be a
composite section per Detail 11/S-603.
e. Plan 14/S-251 does not clearly indicate the lateral system in the east -west direction. It
appears moment connections at either the top or bottom, or both of the posts is intended
per Detail 16/S-603. Calculations substantiating the connections should be submitted for
review.
f. The calculations assume 50% of the lateral load is tributary to the center beam, and 25%
is tributary to the outer beams. The cooling tower appears to be a rigid unit that deflects
uniformly across its footprint. The load should be distributed evenly between the frames.
g. The calculations appear to specify the outer beams as W8x33. The center beam section is
not clear. The drawings specify W8x24 beams, which appear smaller than required by the
calculations. Verify the required beam sizes.
38. The section of the Structural General Notes titled "Stairs, Elevators and Miscellaneous Metals"
on Sheet S-003 states that the design of the connections between the elevator system and the
primary structure shall be performed by the elevator manufacturer. The following comments
should be addressed:
a. The design loads for the elevator system, including impact loading, should be specified in
the General Notes. At a minimum, estimated design loads should be specified for the
Pa e10of11
CITY OF EVERETT . 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8810 • Fax (425) 257-8857
