•
September 29, 2021
department so I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who rolled up their
sleeves and contributed to building this balanced, fiscally-responsible budget,
with a special thanks to Susy Haugen, Rae Ann Nielsen, Wai Poon and Yi Liu.Thank
you.
I'll end now by saying I am proud and pleased with our proposed 2022 budget. It
supports housing, economic growth, public safety, transportation and
infrastructure and even begins to tackle important issues like climate change,
homelessness and equity. Everett is on a strong path forward and it's an honor to
serve our residents together with you, our city council, and together take care of
our beautiful Everett community.
Thank you.
COUNCIL
Council Member Moore thanked the Mayor for her budget address and for the •
transparency about the future challenges the City faces with the structural deficit.
He also commented on the importance of voter approval to force a change in the
state funding mechanism on property tax.
Council Member Roberts stated he looked forward to working with the Mayor to
implement the 2022 budget, and he expressed appreciation for the emphasis on
housing, climate change, and green economy. He commented on his recent
meeting with Planning staff and his plan to present something in writing next week
relating to the Rethink Housing proposal. Council Member Roberts alerted council
members that staff plan to bring forward a housing action plan implementation
grant for action next week, and he also referenced an email he sent to Council
regarding possible amendments to the proposed home occupation ordinance. He
commented on a recent tour of the Boeing and Alaska Airlines decarbonization
system, and announced the opening of a new Domestic Violence Services second-
hand store at 3010 Grand Avenue.
Council Member Bader thanked the Mayor for her budget address, which
provided a good reminder of all the services the City provides on a day-to-day
1111
16
