B. Identify the needs/problems to be addressed with data source
Although we have made progress in recent years, to include 36.4% of all new police officer hires
in 2021 being female and 45.S of BIPOC, the demographics of the Everett Police Department do
not represent the community we serve. Exhibit A; "Everett Police Department Staff" depicts our
current 2021 composition of sworn staff compared to July 2019 Snohomish County census data.
Our project, as described above, will focus on closing that gap with our emphasis on reaching the
BIPOC community.
C. Description of outreach efforts within the community
The Everett Police Department has participated in and has created community outreach
programs over the past 15 years that continue today. Those include:
■ Annual attendance at community events
• Nubian Jam
• Coffee with a cop/chief
• National Night Out Against Crime
• Community July 4th Open House at the Everett Police Department
• Casino Road Soccer Camp created by Everett PD in cooperation with
community members. Serves over 300 youth of underserved communities
• Everett PD, Junior Police Academy serving at risk youth
• Cal Riken Sr. Youth Baseball Camp in cooperation with the Everett Boys and
Girls Club
■ Community and National Organizations
• City of Everett Diversity Committee participation
• Regular communication with Everett's Equity Manager to facilitate diversity,
equity, and inclusion discussions with Everett PD staff
• Everett Public Schools Foundation membership
• National Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives — ongoing
partnership and collaboration
• Frequent local neighborhood meetings
