9 <br />0 <br />tance from an occupied space to an exit, This <br />distance includes the common path of travel <br />addressed in Sections 1006.2.1 and 1006.3.2. <br />Section 1018 takes a look at requirements for <br />aisles and aisle accessways for occupancies <br />other than assembly spaces. Aisle and aisle <br />accessways in spaces used for assembly pur- <br />poses are specifically addressed in :;Section <br />1029. <br />• Section 10 19 provides criteria for when an open <br />stairway between floors can serve as a required <br />exit access stairway, <br />• Section 1020 deals with another type of con- <br />fined part of the exit access path: corridors. <br />- Section 1021 addresses egress balconies, <br />where the path of travel to the exterior exit stair- <br />way is partially open to the exterior. <br />1016.2 Egmss througlk intervening spirces. Egress through <br />intervening spaces shall comply with this section. <br />1. r-vii access through an enclosed elevator lobby is per- <br />mitled. Access to not less than one of the required exits <br />shall be provided without travel through the enclosed <br />elevator lobbies required by Section 3000. Where the <br />path of exit access travel passes through an enclosed <br />elevator lobby, the level ot'protection required for the <br />enclosed elevator lobby is not required to be extended <br />to the exii unless direct access to an exit is required by <br />other sections of` this code. <br />2. Means of egress are not prohibited through a <br />kitchen area serving adjoining rooms consti- <br />tuting part of the same dwelling wO ors/eep- <br />ing stair. <br />I Means qfegress are not prohibited through <br />stockrooms in Group M occupancies where all <br />ofthe following are met: <br />1. The stock is of the Warne hazard classi- <br />fication as that found in the inain retail <br />area. <br />1.1 Not more than 50 percent of the exit <br />access is through the stockroom.Z <br />2.3.
