0
Tape measure will measure gross deflection, chain and connectors for attachment and hardwaa
to attach to railing.
TEST PROCEDURE
A. INFILL GLASS PANEL LOAD: Apply a force of 50 pounds x safety factor of 4 = 200 pounds
minimum at the center of the glass panel, measure gross deflection and release load to inspect
for permanent deflection and any other damage. Load applied with 10" diameter glass suction
cup.
B. TOP RAIL CONCENTRATED LOAD: Apply a concentrated load up to the code required
minimum 200 pounds to the center of the top rail and incrementally measure deflection up to the
maximum load. Release load and inspect for permanent deflection or damage.
C. CONCENTRATED LOAD AT TOP OF BALUSTER: Apply a concentrated load up to the code
required minimum 200 pounds to the top rail baluster and incrementally measure deflection up to
the maximum load. Release load and inspect for permanent deflection or damage.
D. TOP RAIL UNIFORM LOAD: Apply concentrated loads at points with a spreader bar (200#
minimum total load) to approximate uniform load of 50 pounds per linear foot. Incrementally
measure deflection at the mid point of the rail up to the minimum code required uniform load.
Release load and inspect for permanent deflection or damage.
E. CONCENTRATED LOAD AT MID POINT OF TOP RAIL: Apply a concentrated 200 pound x
safety factor of 400# or 3" deflection at the center of the top rail and measure total deflection.
TEST RESULTS
A. INFILL PANEL TEST — %4x 36 7/8" x 57" tempered glass panel. Load applied 0 to 250#,
No permanent deflection or visible deformations.
B. RAIL POINT LOAD — Load applied 0 to 220#, deflection = 1'/4" at maximum load, load
Returned to zero with no permanent observed distortion to any
structure.
C. POINT LOAD TO BALUSTER — Load applied 0 to 230#, deflection =1 5/8", load returned to
zero with no permanent observed distortion to any structure.
D. UNIFORM LOAD TO RAIL — Load applied at % points, total load applied 0 to 330#,
Deflection = 2%" @ center, load returned to zero with no
permanent observed distortion to any structure.
E. TOP RAIL MIDPOINT CONCENTRATED LOAD— 364# concentrated load, deflection =
3.0"
CONCLUSIONS
The guardrail system and installation as described and drawn in this report meets the design
loading requirements of the International Building Code, 2012 edition, sections 1607.8, 1607.8.1,
1607.8.1.1 and 2407.1.
Cj
Respectfully sub 'ft d, -4
J
2
Hubert R.
