Mr. Jim Givins
New Castle Mechanical, LLC
Plan Check Number: M1910-006, First Building Review
November 5, 2019
4. Sheet M-2 shows the installation of Type I hoods. The hoods are required to have a minimum
clearance of 18" per IMC Section 507.2.6. The Section on Sheet M-2 indicates that the walls
are non-combustible, which does not appear to be confirmed; see the comments above. If the
walls are combustible, the design shall be revised to provided the required clearance. If the
walls are non-combustible, the clearance is still required unless wall construction per the
exception is specified; additional requirements shall be specified. The design may need to be
revised.
The specified exhaust hoods are listed to be zero clearance showing rated insulation on the rear
and top of each hood. One hour fire rated wall pad is to be applied to the cooler walls as
shown on the revised submittal drawing.
5. The hoods appear to be partially suspended from the framing above using threaded rods.
Details shall be provided specifying the additional framing (e.g., unistruts, etc.) and connections
required to complete the load path to the roof framing above. Calculations substantiating the
framing and connections are adequate for the supported load should be submitted for review.
See IBC Sections 1603.1 and 1604.1.
This detailing will need to be taken care of by a Structural Engineer.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers -of -record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer / Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
dmartin@everettwa.gov
S:\BMartin\2019\MI910-006-Rl.docx
IUD 3200 Cedar Street 425.257.8810 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett, WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.govn3of
