The Hazard
Mitigation Plan (HMP) identifies the
importance of outreach to the
community, including businesses,
residents, and other organizations
to increase community resilience
and preparedness for disasters.
Residents, businesses, and other
community groups will be better
prepared and self-sufficient
resulting in less immediate need for
responders following an emergency.
Educate, plan for, and exercise on
tsunami threat and
alerting/evacuation related to All
Hazards Alert Broadcast (AHAB)
sirens being installed on the
waterfront.
Two AHAB sirens were installed in
the summer of 2021 through the
federal Tsunami Program. The
community as well as partner
organizations and City departments
will need to be educated on what
the tsunami threat is to the City, the
purpose of the siren, and actions
that should be taken in a real event.
The City CEMP identifies the need to
coordinate activities and
communicate information related to
hazards.
By planning for a tsunami event and
offering training and public
education materials or exercises the
community and responders will be
more prepared.
Priority Area #3
4.8 Facilities
Primary Core Capability
Operational Coordination
Secondary Core Capability
Operational Communications
Build or Sustain
Sustaining/Maintaining
WORK PLANNED
IDENTIFIED GAP/NEED
ANTICIPATED PROJECT IMPACT
Improve the operational readiness
of Everett's Emergency Operations
Center (EOC) and remote EOC-level
coordination activities through
training, exercises, and
improvements.
The City's CEMP identifies the EOC
as a key location for operational
coordination and resource
management. Staff need to be
familiar with the EOC and be able to
effectively operate within it. The
EOC (including remote EOC
activations) must be able to support
the needs of the staff and field
operations.
Training and exercising will enable
staff to better function in the EOC.
More experienced staff and a more
efficient EOC will result in better
operational coordination and
resource management.
DHS-FEMA-EMPG-FY21
City of Everett OEM, E22-221
