INTERWEST — EVERETT CONTRACTOR'S YARD INTERIM FILL PROJECT Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc.
CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN Job Number 17,733
Channels are designed and protected in accordance with all applicable requirements of the DOE Manual
and the City of Everett. Any outlet that may convey runoff during construction shall be stabilized.
Applicable BMPs: BMP C209: Outlet Protection
Element 9- Control Pollutants
All material to be removed/demolished will be disposed of at an approved off -site location. Fueling and
lubrication of construction vehicles and other motorized equipment will occur only at approved off -site
facilities. Construction equipment will be inspected daily as part of regular maintenance activities. Any
leaks or other sources of contamination will be repaired immediately. Spillage or other discharges of
pollutants will be reported within 24 hours. Also, the contractor will maintain any materials necessary
for rapid cleanup of spills.
BMP'S TO CONSIDER FOR ALL ACTIVITIES
Suggested BMPs include:
1) Avoid the activity or reduce its occurrence.
2) Sweep an indoor or outdoor work area instead of hosing it into the storm drain or other
drainage conveyance.
3) Store items inside if possible.
4) Use less material. Don't buy or use more material than you really need.
5) Use the less toxic materials available. Investigate the use of materials that are less toxic than
what you use now. Perhaps a caustic type detergent or a solvent could be replaced with a
more environmentally friendly product.
6) Maintain vegetated areas near activity locations.
7) Locate activities as far as possible from surface drainage paths. Activities located as far as
possible from known drainage paths, ditches and drains will be less likely to pollute, since it
will take longer for material to reach drainage features.
8) Keep storm drainage systems clean.
9) Be an advocate for stormwater pollution prevention. Help friends, partners and business
associates find ways to reduce stormwater pollution in their activities.
Applicable BMPs: BMP C153: Material Delivery, Storage and Containment
Element 10- Control De -Watering
' It is not anticipated that dewatering will be included as a part of this project. However, should it become
necessary, the disposal of dewatering water shall be performed in accordance with the requirements of
the DOE and the City of Everett. Contaminated water must be treated onsite by DOE -approved chemical
means, transported offsite for legal disposal in a manner that does not pollute state waters, or
discharged to the sanitary or combined sewer system with approval from the City (if the first two
options are not viable). If necessary, a Sewer Discharge Authorization Permit may be able to be obtained
SITTS & HILL ENGINEERS, INC. 17
TACOMA, WASHINGTON
