•
Mr. John Bierly
Wing Point Associates
Plan Check Number: B2003-043, First Building Review
May 14, 2020
to details 8/S4.0, 9/S4.3 and 10/S4.3 for elevator connection details to the
structural framing.
e. The structural calculations should be performing using the appropriate load combinations
including live and seismic loading per IBC Section 1605. In addition, documentation should
be submitted verifying the nominal loads have been increased for impact effects per IBC
Section 1607.9.1. The application of the live load factors in the load combinations does not
represent the impact increase. Refer to response in note C.
f. The elevator shaft extends through three levels of wood-framed structure. Calculations
substantiating that shrinkage of the structure will not adversely affect the performance of
the elevator are recommended. Elevator rails should be evaluated for induced axial loads or
provided with connections that allow for vertical differential movement. See IBC Section
2304.3.3.Shrinkage of the structure will not be an issue. The elevator will be
directly supported on new steel HSS posts with new glulam beams and over 100
year old timbers directly down to a new foundation.
10.The Penthouse Roof Framing Plan on Sheet S2.4 appears to show a W8x18 elevator hoist
beam. The connections between the beam and supporting framing are not clear and should be
specified. Calculations substantiated the connection design should be submitted for review.
See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1604.1. Detail 9 on S4.3 shows the proposed connection of
a WT welded to the HSS rail support for the W8 hoist beam.
This review has been performed for general compliance with the building codes as adopted and
amended by the state of Washington and the city of Everett. Corrections and comments made
during the review process do not relieve the project from compliance with code and permit
requirements. The designers-of-record are responsible for a complete design in accordance with
the laws of the state of Washington.
If you have any questions or require additional clarification, please contact us.
Respectfully,
Drew Martin, P.E., S.E.
Associate Engineer/ Commercial Plans Examiner
(425)257-8813
d ma rti n Peverettwa.gov
S:\BMartin\2020\B2003-043_R1.docx
0 3200 Cedar Street 0 425.257.8810 0 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gov/permits
Page 9of9
