• •
Mr.John Bierly
Wing Point Associates
Plan Check Number: B2003-043, First Building Review
May 14,2020
condition. HSS posts layouts have been revised to cover(4)corners for each car-
stack unit.
c. The framing plans on Sheets S2.3 and S2.4 do not consistently show the columns. In
addition, the roof plan appears to be missing support framing for some of the columns. The
design should be revised as needed. See IBC section 1603.1. Column layouts have been
revised to match at both levels with the supplemental framing at the roof along
gird El.
Lateral System:
8. The proposed project includes the addition of seismic upgrades. The upgrades do not appear
to be required based on a review of IEBC Sections 403 and 407.1. Please confirm if the
upgrades are voluntary per Section 403.9. If the upgrades are not voluntary, please clarify. A
brief project statement on the upgrades should be included in the General Structural Notes.
Additional comments may be pending. See IBC Section 101.4.7 and 107.2.1.The seismic
upgrades are voluntary.A brief project statement is provided in the structural calcs.
Miscellaneous:
9. The project scope includes a new elevator. The following comments should be addressed:
a. The elevator design drawings should be included in the list of deferred submittals in the
General Structural Notes. See IBC Section 107.3.4.1. Elevator design drawings have
been included in the list of deferred submittals in the General Structural Notes.
b. The design loads for the elevator system, including impact loading, should be specified in
the"Design loading Criteria"section of the General Structural Notes. When actual design
loads are not available, estimated design loads should be specified for the design, and
verified when the elevator design drawings are submitted for review. See IBC Sections
1603.1.8 and 1607.9.1. Estimated design loads have been specified in the General
Structural Notes.
c. The building framing (i.e., elevator shaft and supporting floor framing) is presumed to
support the elevator system. Calculations substantiating the design of the structure to
support the elevator loads concurrently with other loads should be submitted for review.
The calculations should include the evaluation of deflection limits per IBC Section 1607.9.1.
The design shall consider concurrent multi-directional loading as determined by the elevator
manufacturer. See IBC Sections 1604.2 and 1605. The HSS rail support posts and
wood beams supporting the elevator have been designed to accommodate the
estimated design impact loads. Supplemental calculations have been provided.
d. The connections between the elevator guide rails and the structural framing are typically the
responsibility of the engineer-of-record for the building system. At a minimum, connection
details between the rail bracket and structural framing are required. Calculations and
details for the elevator connections to the structural framing should be submitted for review.
The design shall consider concurrent multi-directional loading as determined by the elevator
manufacturer. The required locations and maximum spacing for the connection points
should be specified in the structural drawings. See IBC Section 107.2.1 and 1604.4.
