E EVERETT
Project title: National Endowment for the Arts Grant Application
City Council Agenda Item Cover Sheet
Council Bill #
Agenda dates requested:
2/9/22
Briefing
Proposed action
Consent 2/9/22
Action
Ordinance
Public hearing
Yes
No
Budget amendment:
Yes No
PowerPoint presentation:
Yes No
Attachments:
Department(s) involved:
Administration
Contact person:
Nichole Webber
Phone number:
425-257-7119
Email:
nwebber@everettwa.gov
Initialed by:
Department head
Administration
Council President
Consideration: Authorize city to apply and mayor to sign all grant forms
Project: National Endowment for the Arts Grant
Partner/Supplier : National Endowment for the Arts
Location: Everett
Preceding action: None
Fund: Fund 009
Fiscal summary statement:
City of Everett Staff are requesting to apply for an
arts matching grant award that would help to fund a
Land Acknowledgment art piece. There is funding
approved 2022 budget. Grant awards are available up
to $100,000.
Project summary statement:
The City of Everett plans to commission an artist to
create an outdoor public art piece to acknowledge the
original indigenous inhabitants of the land that is now
the City of Everett.
The piece intends to serve as a lasting symbol of the
City's official land acknowledgment, which was
created in partnership with the Tulalip Tribes in 2021.
This project will honor and celebrate the city's commitment to this land
acknowledgment in a way that a written statement cannot, as art has
memorialized significant moments and shared virtues between sovereign
nations throughout human existence.
The final art piece will be free and open for public viewing; it will be
outdoors, on public property, and maintained by the City. The artist and
final form are to be determined; the City is beginning to develop a call for
artists with local tribal input.
Recommendation:
Authorize city staff to apply for and, if awarded, authorize the mayor to sign
all necessary documents and agreements with the National Endowment for
the Arts regarding the application, acceptance, and utilization of the FY
2023 Land Acknowledgment Grant for up to $100,000.
