I could dean this up with a number of tavels, but it didn't extend more than 10' or so.
This time, I found tvater all across the laundry levcl and down into thc basernent where it lias damaged the Iloorinq and
soaked an area rug. The force uf lhe water backed up the drain so that the flow cante aut o( a tnilet and lavatory sink on
the same level as well as the washinn machine drain.
There is a hackwater valve for the toilet •hich i believe is where the water has entered the house previuusiy since I had
n.,t scen signs of backflow through thre toilet and sink before this event.
Can Public Worl<s look at this situaticn to determine why this back(low is happening and whether anything can Ie done
to scop it. It wouid seem that the purpose oi the backwater valve is to stop such flow, but 1 am noi confident that this
valve is a61e to per(orm under these ronditions.
I[ seems ro me that the city has a responsihiliry ro pmvent backflaw into customer's home rather than the homeowner.
