, - • <br /> two Meter Repairmen; twenty-three Utility <br /> Laborers; four Radio Technicians (part time) ; <br /> four Day Laborers; one Records Engineer; one <br /> Blacksmith Helper; one Oiler; one Distribution <br /> Utilityman. <br /> The Superintendent shall be in general charge and have super- <br /> vision of the Water Department. The other officers, assistants <br /> and employees shall perform such duties as pertain to the <br /> nature of their office and as authorized and directed by the <br /> Superintendent of the Water Department and Commissioner of <br /> Public Works . <br /> SECTION 23 : It is the purpose of this ordinance to <br /> fix the number of and description of the permanent assistants, <br /> deputies and employees in the various offices of the City of <br /> Everett, and nothing herein contained shall be construed so as <br /> to prevent the various officers and various heads of the <br /> departments of the City of Everett from employing, with the <br /> consent of the City Council, such additional employees, as from <br /> time to time, may be necessary in the Proper discharge of the <br /> duties of such officers, or from discontinuing such temporary <br /> or part time employees when the necessity therefor has ceased <br /> to exist. <br /> SECTION 24: The appointment of all employees in all <br /> departments, where required by the City Charter, shall be <br /> subject to Civil Service regulations of the City of Everett, <br /> Provided in event vacancies occur and there is no eligibility <br /> list from which said vacancy may be filled, temporary appoint- <br /> ment may be made of persons without Civil Service standing. <br /> The Stenographer in the City Attorney Department shall be <br /> appointed by the City Attorney. <br /> The Special City Attorney shall be appointed by the City <br /> Council. <br /> The City Clerk shall be ex officio Secretary of the <br /> Civil Service Commission. <br /> The Assistant and Special Examiners in the Civil Service <br /> Department shall be appointed by the Civil Service Commission. <br /> The Clerk of the Police Court Department shall be <br /> appointed by the Police Justice. <br /> The officers, assistants and employees in the Department <br /> of Finance shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Finance . <br /> The officers, assistants and employees in the Department <br /> of Safety shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Safety. <br /> The officers, assistants and employees of the Department <br /> of Public Works shall be appointed by the Commissioner of <br /> Public Works . <br /> SECTION 25: That on and after the 1st day of January, <br /> 1960, the salaries and compensations to be paid to the officers, <br /> assistants, deputies and employees of the City of Everett shall <br /> be as in this ordinance provided. <br />
