' ' r w <br /> er. <br /> ORDINANCE NO. .' <br /> AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING VACATION PAY FOR CERTAIN CITY <br /> EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF EVERETT AND SUPERSEDING ORDINANCE NO. 3275 <br /> AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: • <br /> Section 1: That commencing January 1, 1956 and each year <br /> thereafter, each City employee, except members of the Fire Department, <br /> who shall have worked twelve (12) full calendar months during the <br /> preceding year shall be granted sixteen (16) consecutive days <br /> vacation with pay. The vacation shall include sixteen (16) con- <br /> secutive days, including Saturday and Sunday; provided that, if a <br /> legal holiday shall fall within such period of time, being a holiday <br /> upon which said employee would otherwise be granted a day' s vacation, <br /> then an additional day's vacation shall be granted such employee. <br /> Those employees who shall have worked less than twelve (12) full <br /> calendar months during the preceding year shall be granted a <br /> vacation of one (1) working day for each full month worked during <br /> the preceding year. <br /> i Provided further, that the present City employees on the <br /> payroll of the City of Everett as of January 1, 1956 and having <br /> five (5) years of continuous service prior to January 1, 1956 shall <br /> have three additional working days vacation ,with pay; and provided <br /> further that those employees having three (3) years continuous <br /> service prior to January 1, 1956 shall have two additional working <br /> 0 days vacation with pay; and provided further that those employees <br /> having two (2) years continuous service prior to January 1, 1956 <br /> shall have one additional working days vacation with pay. That <br /> thereafter all City employees who shall have after January 1, 1956 <br /> completed five (5) years continuous service with the City of <br /> Everett shall be allowed three additional working days vacation with <br /> i pay; that those employees who shall have after January 1, 1956 <br /> completed three (3) years continuous service with the City of <br /> k Everett shall be allowed two additional working days vacation with <br /> Ipay; that those employees who shall have after January 1, 1956 <br /> + completed two (2) years continuous service with the City of Everett <br /> j shall be allowed one additional working day' s vacation with pay; <br /> that no person, regardless of length of service, shall be granted <br /> 1 more than three extra working days vacation with pay over and above <br /> sixteen consecutive days vacation as above provided. <br /> 1 Section 2: The time of taking vacations shall be fixed <br /> 1 by the head of the department. The full vacation shall normally be <br /> I! taken without interruption, except where a divided vacation is <br /> necessary or desirable in order to facilitate the conduct of City <br /> fbusiness and except where the department head and employees, by <br /> mutual agreement, arrange for vacation time for officers and em- <br /> ployees on any schedule, divided or otherwise, which will least <br /> interfere with the functioning of the department. <br /> i <br /> Section 3: Each employee shall take his vacation in the <br /> year in which it accrues, provided that an employee may, with the <br /> I consent of the head of his department as hereinafter provided, <br /> accrue and carry over 10 consecutive days vacation rights to the <br /> ; following year. All other vacation rights shall terminate at the <br /> ' expiration of the year in which they accrue. An employee desiring <br /> to accrue vacation rights shall make application to the head of his <br /> department on or before January 15th of the year in which he desires <br /> to accrue vacation rights, which vacation shall be taken in the year <br /> 11following. If the application shall be rejected the employee shallt <br /> 0 have the right to appeal within ten days of rejection to the <br /> commissioner in charge of the department for which he is employed <br /> and the decision of the commissioner shall be final. <br /> C <br /> 1 <br /> �I I <br /> i <br /> t <br />
