,. . <br /> ` <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> 3440 <br /> AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO AND PROVIDING FOR SICK LEAVE <br /> PRIVILEGES FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF EVERETT. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1: Cumulative sick leave with pay shall accrue <br /> to each city employee actively e_nployed in the city service at the <br /> 1; rate of one working day of leave for each calendar month of the <br /> employee ' s active service, except members of the Fire Department and <br /> the Police Department under statutory pension fund systems shall not <br /> be included. The total accumulation of sick leave shall not exceed <br /> ninety (90) days at full pay. <br /> Section 2 An initial accumulation of sick leave shall be <br /> granted to employees at the rate of three (3) days per year for each <br /> year of prior service, the maximum of such initial accumulation to <br /> be ninety (90) =,orking days. <br /> Section 3: Employees who, for any purpose, are granted <br /> leave of absence with pay shall continue to accrue sick leave during <br /> such leave of absence. Employees heretofore or hereafter laid off <br /> for reasons not discreditable to them and rehired within twelve (12) <br /> months, and employees granted leave of absence without pay shall not <br /> accrue sick leave during said layoff or leave of absence, but, upon <br /> resumption of active employment, shall have available the sick leave ; <br /> accrued at the time of such layoff or leave of absence, <br /> Section 4: After nine (9) months of service an employee <br /> shall be eligible to receive sick leave with pay, es herein provided; <br /> for the following reasons only: <br /> (a) Personal illness or physical incapacity to such an <br /> extent as thereby to be rendered unable to perform <br /> the duties of his or her positions provided such <br /> illness or incapacity shall not be caused or brought <br /> on by dissipation or abuse of which the head of the <br /> department shall be judge subject to review by the <br /> City Council. <br /> (b) Enforced quarantine in accordance with certain <br /> health regulations. <br /> (c) Upon the death of a member of employee ' s immediate <br /> family, sick leave not exceeding three (3) days <br /> shall be granted. <br /> Section 5: Sick leave with pay for a period of three (3) <br /> days or less shall., be granted upon the recommendation of the <br /> department head after the department, head has satisfied himself that : <br /> such sick leave is allowable. Sick leave with nay for a period of <br /> four (4) days or more shall be granted only upon the presentation of . <br /> a written statement by the employee ' s personal physician and/or <br /> physician representing the city, certifying that the employee 's <br /> condition will prevent or has prevented such employee from perform- <br /> ing the duties of his or her position or that the employee was <br /> subject to quarantine. An employee on sick leave shall inform his <br /> or her department head, or cause the department head to be informed, <br /> forthwith that he or she is unable to report for duty and the <br /> reasons therefor, and failure so to do without excuse, shall be <br /> cause for denial of sick leave pay. <br /> 1 <br />
