No gas stoves <br /> shall be used )111ch are not directly connected to the )utside maw, <br /> and all gas connections shall be of a metal type. <br /> All rooms and wards shall have adequate natural <br /> lightin,. In addition artiJOicial lightinu, shall be sufficient and <br /> well placed for comfortable reading. Adequate lighting in the halls <br /> and bathrooms shall be required both day and night. <br /> 'aindow space shall not be less than one-fifth of the <br /> floor space. All windows shall have openings adequate to provide <br /> necessary ventilation. They shall be screened and shall be fitted <br /> ;. with shields and plates to protect patients from direct currents <br /> ! of air. <br /> All wards and rooms shall be of sufficient size to <br /> 4; allow at least seventy (70) square feet of floor space for each <br /> adult patient, with at least three (3) feet of space between all <br /> beds. <br /> Occupants shall not be housed above the second story <br /> unless adequate fire escapes are provided. Basement rooms, in <br /> addition to meeting requirements as to light, floor space, and <br /> 11 ventilation, must have specific approval of the City Health Depart <br /> rent before occupanc7 is authorized. <br /> All bathrooms shall be equipped with sanitary toilets, <br /> wash basins, and bathing facilities. A safe and sanitary supply of <br /> both hot and cold water shall be available in all bathrocms. No <br /> common drinking cups shall be allowed. There shall be provided in <br /> either the room, ward or other convenient ' lace adequate closet <br /> or locker and drawer space, and a towel rack with_ clean towels and <br /> wash cloths for the exclusive use of each patient. <br /> Bed linen shall be changed sufficiently often to be <br /> fresh and clean. Blankets shall be cleaned periodically. Fresh <br /> bedding and linens shall be supplied to each new patient. All sheets <br /> shall completely cover the mattress, and tuck in at least four (4) <br /> inches on all sides. <br /> If a municipal -,rater supply is not available, the water <br /> supply shall be of such type as to meet the requirements of the <br /> State Department of Health. <br /> When a municipal sewer system is not availaole, a <br /> method of sewage disposal .crust be provided which meets the approval <br /> of the City Health Officer. All plans for the authorization of <br /> new construction of sewer plants shall oe submitted to the City <br /> Health Officer for abproval. <br /> In case both sexes are housed on the same floor, one <br /> toilet shall ee aaintained for each sex. <br /> No person shall be given a license to operate a <br /> Place of refuge who uses intoxiaating liquor to excess and who is <br /> not of good moral character. <br /> II <br /> -2- <br />
