Enclosed is a summary of their findings. Please review the report and
contact us with any questions.
The report identifies deficiencies in your plumbing, sewer and drainage system. This
includes:
• The two downspouts in the back yard are connected to your side sewer on the
upstream side of the backwater valve. This could cause your basement to flood
during a surcharge event with water from the downspouts.
• The backwater valve may not have been seated properly due to dirt and debris
that was stuck between the flapper and the seat of the backwater valve. This
would not allow a tight and secure fit during a surcharge event.
The downspouts connected upstream of your backwater valve should be disconnected, or
rerouted so that they connect downstream of the backwater valve. If you would like
further assistance with this drainage modification please contact Brian Doolan or Grant
Moen.
We recommend that you inspect your backwater valve 4 times a year to ensure that it is
clean, undamaged and that it is working correctly, as indicated in the maintenance packet
you received previously. If you require an additional maintenance packet or a
demonstration please call and we will provide assistance.
CITY OF EVERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
