problems are arising in the field due to the lack of an approved mechanical permit for the building. • For the question of required ventilation for habitable spaces and bathrooms the guiding code is the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code (please find attached). o In short, if the kitchen and/or toilet rooms have a window(of a minimum size)that opens directly to the exterior,ventilation is satisfied (in existing buildings). If the kitchen and/or toilet room does not have a window that opens directly to the exterior, as is the case with some of the toilet rooms in this building, mechanical exhaust is required. • For the laundry room, an exhaust fan and dryer ducts are required to be vented to the outside per IMC Section 403.3.1.1 and IPMC Section 403.5.These items should be part of the mechanical permit for the building. • As the corridor is not habitable space, it will not require ventilation. Other items found: • We are not able to find a permit(s)for the water heaters in the basement mechanical room - which are required.A permit was found for the gas piping (M1808-022).
