If sewer pressures build up to the elevation of the road surface the material will
spill out of the manhole covers and flow in the road allowing a relief of pressure prior to flow entering your
upstairs.
2) As described above it is possible for sewer to spill onto the road surface if the flows far exceed the system
capacity. However this material would typically reenter the sewer system through downstream catch basins
where capacity is available. We can discuss your concerns regarding surface water flow when we meet.
3) Regarding the backwater valve, the City hired a consultant to evaluate the different available backwater valves
following a large storm event in June of 2010.At that time the City choose to use the clean check valve by Rector
Seal (http://cleancheck.rectorseal.com/about.htm).As we discussed one of the major advantages of this
backwater valve is that it can be located outside of the house in a clean out that can be removed for inspection
and maintenance rather then requiring the installation of a manhole for access to a backwater valve that would
necessitate a confined space entry for access.
Thank you,
Grant Moen,P.E.
Associate Engineer
City of Everett Public Works
3200 Cedar Street
Everett,WA 98201
(425)257-8947
gmoen@ci.everett.wa.us
From: Mark Sadler
Sent:.Monday, November 04, 2013 1:06 PM
To: Grant Moen
Subject: FW: Concerns
From: Gini Ostrom [mailto:lovteachinOgmail.com]
Sent: Sunday, November 03, 2013 10:07 PM
To: Mark Sadler
Subject: Concerns
Good Morning Mark,
i
