( <br /> -.."444%,„6„ <br /> ar <br /> „ <br /> 4 <br /> 41, <br /> ORDINANCE 140 / <br /> qa Y4,7**f <br /> tar 1-4,Ne <br /> 4t4i• <br /> AN ORDINANCE relating to and regulating traffic, travel, <br /> transportation and pedestrians and their incidents upon the streets, <br /> alleys and public ways of Everett, a municipal corporation; prescribing <br /> the rules of road for vehicular, pedestrian and other traffic upon <br /> such streets, alleys and public ways ; prescribing the powers and <br /> duties of the officers and other persons in relation thereto; defining <br /> offenses, providing penalties, adopting certain portions of the <br /> motor vehicle laws of the State of \Jiashin„ton and existing amendments <br /> thereto; and repealing ordinance numbers : 2318, 2734, 150, 2348, <br /> 2522, and 2612, all relating to Graffic. <br /> THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> CHAPTER I <br /> Section 1: The words and phrases herein used for the <br /> purpose of this ordinance hhall have the meanings respectively <br /> ascribed to them in this section, except in those instances &here the <br /> context clearly indicates a different meaning. <br /> (1) ALLEY: A public highway within the ordinary mean- <br /> ing of alley not designed for general travel and primarily used as <br /> a means of access to the rear of residences and business establish- <br /> ments. <br /> (2) ARTERIAL HIGHAY: A main traveled thoroughfare <br /> upon which vehicles are accorded the right-of-way designated an <br /> arterial highway according to law, ona indicated by posts, signs, or <br /> other markers directing that vehicles approaching on intersecting <br /> highways stop before entering thereon. <br /> (3) AUTHORIZED mhimhGEJCY VEHICLE: Any vehicle, as <br /> herein defined, of any fire department, police department, Sheriff ' s <br /> office, coroner, prosecuting attorney, lAashington state patrol, <br /> ambulance service, public or private, or any other vehicle authorized <br /> in writing by the state commission on equipment. <br /> (4) BICYCLE: mvery vehicle, as herein defined, having <br /> a sadale for the use of the rider, operated by human power, and <br /> designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with <br /> the ground, but excluding a farm tractor. <br /> (5) BUS ZONE: A designated portion of the street along <br /> the curb reserved far loading and unloading busses providing <br /> regular bus service within the aity of hverett. <br /> (6) BUSINESS DISTRICT: The territory contiguous to and <br /> including the public highway, as herein defined, when fifty percent <br /> (50A or more of the frontage thereon on either side thereof for a <br /> distance of three hundred (300) feet or more is occupied by <br /> buildings in use for business. <br /> (7) CENTER LINE: The line, marked or unmarked, parallel <br /> to and equidistant from the sides of the roadway of a public highway. <br /> -1- <br /> ) <br />
