• <br /> or moved, any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is not at all <br /> times equipped in the manner required by the Washington motor Vehicle <br /> Act, or the equipment of which is not in proper condition and adjust- <br /> ment as required by that act. <br /> Any vehicle at any time found to be defective in equipment <br /> in such a manner that it may be considered unsafe shall be an unlawful <br /> vehicle ana may be prevented from further operation until such equip- :, <br /> '=anent defect is corrected, and any peace officer is empowered to im- <br /> pound such vehicle until the same has been placed in a condition <br /> satisfactory to vehicle inspection. The necessary cost of impounding <br /> any such unlawful vehicle and any cost for the storage and keeping <br /> thereof shall be paid by the owner thereof. The impounding of any <br /> such vehicle shall be in addition to any penalties for such unlawful <br /> operation. <br /> The provisions of this section shall not be construed to <br /> : prevent the operation of any such defective vehicle to a place for <br /> correction of equipment defect in the manner directed by any peace <br /> officer or representative of the state Commission on Equipment. <br /> Section 48: UNLAWFUL TO OPERATE DAMAGED VEHICLE. In the <br /> event that any vehicle shall become damaged in such a manner that arch <br /> vehicle shall have become unsafe for operation, it shall be unlawful <br /> ; for the owner or operator thereof to cause such vehicle to be operated <br /> ; unless such owner or operator shall have presented such vehicle to the <br /> =; Police Lepartment or the duly authorized inspection station for <br /> inspection of equipment within twenty-four hours after its return to <br /> service. <br /> Section 49: LOAD iLUST BE PREVENTED FROM MAKING 011 <br /> 0 DROPPI.AG oN PUBLIC nIGTNAY. i+o vehicles shall be driven or moved on <br /> any public highway unless such vehicle is so constructed or loaded <br /> has to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking or other- <br /> wise escaping therefrom, except that sand may be dropped for the <br /> ?? purpose of securing traction, or water or other substance may be <br /> ; sprinkled on a roadway in the cleaning or maintaining of such roadway <br /> �? by a public authority having jurisdiction. Any person operating a <br /> vehicle from which any glass or objects have fallen or escaped, which <br /> ; would constitute an obstruction or injure a vehicle or otherwise <br /> 'Fendanger travel upon such public highway shall immediately cause the <br /> public highway to be cleaned of all such glasaor objects. It shall <br /> unlawful for any person to throw or drop any glasscbject, debris <br /> ar any waste from any moving vehicle or upon the right of way of any <br /> public highway. <br /> Section 50: SCHOOL BUSSES TO BE EQUIPPED WITH STOP SIGNS. <br /> Al1 school busses shall be equipped with a "stop" signal upon a back- <br /> -round note less than fourteen by eighteen inches (14x18) displaying <br /> the word t stopU in letters of distinctly contrasting colors not less <br /> than eight (g) inches high. All school busses which are put into <br /> service after the effective date of this act shall also be equipped <br /> with red lamps of a type approved by the state commission on equip- <br /> ment, which shall display a flashing signal. Such signs and lamps <br /> shall display both to the front and rear of such school bus, and shall <br /> be displayed only when such school bus is receiving or discharging <br /> school passengers and shall be released only when such school passen- <br /> gers are received or discharged and have not further need of pro <br /> Ytection in crossing the public highway or otherwise. <br /> is <br /> -l8- <br />
