The rain storm event on August 29,2013 and resulting storm drain sewer system backup sent up to three
feet of water down McDougall Avenue in front of our business. Manhole covers on 36th and 37th street
were lifted by the water pressure sending water pouring down the streets surrounding our building
(photos attached). The water rose and then subsided in the span of approximately 2 hours.
Our building Is made primarily of concrete and metal and suffered no significant structural or surface
damage, it is fortunate that the floor Is raised 3 feet inside the majority of the building and these
surfaces were not affected. We did however, have 22 customers with street grade storage units that
were damaged by surface water and have notified those individuals to file their own claims with the City
of Everett (see attached 9/3 letter).
Our business damage claim receipts are still being compiled and finalized but will include (but are not
limited to):
• staff labor for activities related to customer notification cleaning and salvage of property
+ cleaning supplies and equipment rental (fans, dehumidifier etc)
• dumpster and garbage disposal fees
• boxes and packing materials provided to customers for repacking property
• elevator pit pumping and cleaning
• plumbing repairs to side sewer plug and related backup
• temporary toilet rental
While we were affected by the 8/29 event subsequent heavy rain storms have not caused any issues. I
expect to have a final claim amount in early October for submittal as all third party vendor bills will have
been received at that time.
We have photographs of our customer damages some of whom may choose to file separate claims for
property damage If they prove helpful in documenting or substantiating these separate claims.
Pat Sievers
Everett Downtown Storage
425,303.0844 office
425.508.2070 cell
