1.0 INTRODUCTION
This interim draft report presents the "to date"results of our geotechnical field investigation and
preliminary conclusions and recommendations for design and construction of the Boeing—Everett 777X
Composite Wing Fabrication Center — Building 40-58 at The Boeing Company (Boeing) campus in
Everett,Washington. Design of this project is occurring at a fast pace—this interim draft report presents
draft conclusions and recommendations for elements of the project needed by the design team
immediately. Conceptual discussions of other design issues are also raised here and will be refined in a
subsequent draft.
The general project location is shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). The Current Site Layout
(Figure 2) shows some of the existing site features;the Subsurface Exploration Plan(Figure 3)shows the
approximate locations of the explorations completed for this study. The Composite Wing Facility Layout
(Figure 4) shows the general configuration of the proposed wing facility and other project features.
Subsurface Profiles A-A' through D-D' are presented on Figures 5 through 8 and present a graphical
summary of subsurface conditions encountered during exploration drilling. Appendix A presents a
description of the field explorations and summary boring logs of conditions observed in our explorations
completed for this study. Appendix B presents a description of the geotechnical laboratory testing
program and the results of the laboratory testing. Appendix C contains summary logs of explorations
conducted by others in the project area. (During preparation of this interim draft report, additional
previous explorations by others were presented to us by the design team. The conditions reported on logs
of those explorations have not been fully incorporated into the discussion and conclusions presented in
this interim draft report.)
This report has been prepared based on our discussions with and information provided by BRPH
Architects-Engineers (BRPH), The Boeing Company, Transpo Group, and other members of the project
planning and design team, and our explorations in the project area.
1.1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We understand that Boeing plans to construct a 1,250-ft by 960-ft building adjacent to and
immediately east of the existing Building 40-56 and north of Buildings 40-32, 40-33, and 40-34 on the
Boeing—Everett campus. The building would be constructed upon a fill pad extending north of a portion
of the current Perimeter Road alignment and eastward to near Building 40-82. Buildings 40-60, 40-83,
40-84, 40-097, and a portion of Building 40-85 all reside within the proposed Building 40-58 footprint;
these existing buildings will be demolished prior to construction. A number of utilities will need to be
abandoned and/or relocated prior to construction.
5/16/14 P:\1423\002\010\PileRm\R\Draft Bldg 40-58 Report\Bldg 40-58_draft rpt.docx INTERIM DRAFT
1-1
