A significant amount of fill will be necessary to raise site grades within the fill pad area to match
the floor elevation of adjoining buildings. Existing grades around the south and west perimeter of the site
are within a few feet of the established Building 40-58 finished floor elevation(FFE);along the north and
east sides of the fill pad,up to about 16 ft of fill will be necessary for level construction. Retaining walls
are planned along the west and east fill pad perimeter. Along the north side of the building, an integral
foundation and retaining wall will be constructed.
Building 40-58 will include two large open spans supported by rows of columns along the north
and south building walls plus an interior column array also oriented along an east-west axis. A concrete
slab-on-grade will support factory floor loads of up to 500 psf.
1.2 SCOPE OF SERVICES
Landau Associates was subcontracted by BRPH to provide services to support the project. Our
scope of services includes geotechnical design and construction recommendations, as documented in our
subcontract agreement with BRPH,dated April 11,2014.
Our scope of services includes the following:
• A review of existing data regarding the site, including mapped geology, past site grading
and construction activities, past explorations, and the layout of existing building, utilities,
and other built infrastructure.
• Preparation for the geotechnical subsurface exploration program, including utility locates,
field reconnaissance, work plan development, and field program management.
• Exploratory drilling and sampling and geotechnical laboratory testing
• Analysis and development of recommendations for the design of building foundations,
floor slabs and aprons, earthwork, site grading, seismic input parameters, suitable shoring
and retaining wall systems, and earth pressures on below-grade structures.
• Preparation of this report, which includes the following(note that the interim draft report
does not fully address all of these topics):
— a site plan showing pertinent site features and the approximate locations of the
explorations accomplished for this study.
— descriptive logs of the explorations and the results of the geotechnical laboratory
testing.
— a summary of surface and subsurface soil and groundwater conditions observed at the
project site during our field exploration program.
— an evaluation of the moisture sensitivity of the soil at the project site.
— recommendations for site preparation and earthwork, including reuse of site soil, and
criteria for selection, placement, and compaction of general fill and structural fill.
— recommendations for slopes and support of temporary and permanent excavations, as
would be necessary for footing excavations.
5/16/14 P.\1423\002\O10\FileRm\R\Draft Bldg 40-58 Reporl\Bldg 40-58_draft rpt docx INTERIM DRAFT
1-2
