<br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />24 <br /> <br />Vehicles, Safety and Odor Control <br /> <br />Vehicles <br /> <br />• The vehicle owner, either City or Contractor, is responsible for maintaining and repairing <br />equipment. <br />• At a minimum, the following safety equipment should be in all trucks: <br /> <br />• Flares <br />• Flashlight <br />• Flashing light or beacon <br />• Safety cones <br />• Shovel <br />• Broom <br />• First aid kit <br />• Personal protective equipment <br />• Absorbent pads for blocking storm drains <br />• State of Washington Accident Report Forms <br />• A copy of this handbook <br /> <br />• All trucks should be equipped with a radio and telephone. The City has its own radio <br />system detailed in Chapter 5, Communications of the Public Works Emergency Response <br />Program. The Contractor is responsible for assuring an appropriate communication <br />system is in all Contractor vehicles. <br /> <br />• All trucks and trailers should be as clean as possible and to assure residuals are not <br />tracked or dropped onto roadways. <br /> <br />Safety <br /> <br />All drivers should have been trained in defensive, safe driving methods and should have current <br />first aid certifications. All drivers must have current licenses for the vehicles they operate. <br /> <br />Safe materials handling practices: <br /> <br />• Wear appropriate personal protective gear when cleaning up spills or cleaning vehicles <br />• Wash hands frequently <br />• Keep vaccinations up to date <br />
