None Fund: 401 Public Works Fiscal summary statement: Public Works requires parts from Beaver Equipment to complete the repair and replacement of actuators and gearboxes. Approval of the sole source resolution will allow Public Works to maintain a schedule for repairs and maintenance. The anticipated spend is approximately $400,000 annually. Project summary statement: The City has over 200 original large valves at the Water Filtration Plant that will need new actuators and gearboxes. These valves and actuators were installed in the early 1980s, and many need to be replaced. The City has standardized on Rotork actuators and gearboxes for the valve upgrades to minimize downtime for maintenance and repairs and maintain consistent operations for the community. The current valves and actuators are experiencing higher maintenance and repairs due to their common age and condition. Due to longer ordering lead times from the manufacturer, Public Works will be ordering 2 years of equipment at a time to stay up to date on maintenance and repair schedules. Beaver Equipment, Inc. is the only authorized supplier in the Northwest trade area that sells Rotork Actuators and Gearboxes. With proper repair and maintenance, these valves are expected to last for decades. This sole source request is to purchase actuators, gearboxes and parts as needed. City forces will install the parts and maintain the valves.
