<br /> 40 <br />ARTICLE 28 - PERSONNEL REDUCTION <br /> <br />In the case of a personnel reduction, the employee with the least seniority shall be laid off first. Time in <br />the Fire Department shall be given the utmost consideration. The involved employee shall have the <br />opportunity of taking up to one (1) year’s leave of absence as an option prior to a layoff. No new <br />employee shall be hired until the laid off employee or individual on leave of absence has been given the <br />opportunity to return to work. <br /> <br />The employee shall be given a complete physical examination when he/she is laid off, and upon recall to <br />duty, must be reasonably able to meet the aforementioned physical standard. <br /> <br />Any employee holding a permanent appointment above first class firefighter shall be given the <br />opportunity to return to his original rank at the time of the reduction before anyone is promoted to that <br />rank. <br /> <br />
