Project summary statement: Individuals charged with misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors in the City of Everett are prosecuted in Everett Municipal Court. The majority of defendants cannot afford an attorney and qualify as "indigent" under state guidelines, and the City must provide indigent defendants with a lawyer at the City's expense. The City provides this service through a contract with Everett Law Association. The City has previously received a $90,000 grant from the Washington Office of Public Defense (OPD) for Everett Law Association to provide certain social services. OPD has now awarded an additional $10,888.90 to that grant. This additional money is for Everett Law Association to use for training purposes. This action includes accepting the additional grant funds, authorizing the Mayor to sign grant agreement amendment #1 with OPD, and authorizing the Mayor to sign amendment #1 with Everett Law Association.
