SIC MA
4285 CR 3270
Kempner, TX 76539
501 358 2112
ben@sigmacoaching.com
reviewed data, but it has served over 7500 officers nationwide in every vertical of law -
enforcement (municipal, county, state, and federal agencies).
Metabolic Analysis with Exercise and Nutritional Modification
Each patient will be subject to a cardiopulmonary exercise stress test on a stationary bicycle or
treadmill. This test measures functional capacity, the presence of any ischemia (lack of blood
flow to the heart muscle) and utilizes a technique known as indirect calorimetry through
respiratory gas collection. Officers are then shown the current state of their resting metabolic
status (carbohydrate and fat utilization rates) and are guided through recommendations
pertaining to changes in diet and exercise habits. This guidance fosters improvements in fitness,
mental -focus, alertness, and increases overall police officer resiliency. Furthermore, due to the
significant rates of obesity in law -enforcement, there is a strong emphasis placed on using these
recommendations towards weight optimization and achieving a healthy body mass index (BMI).
Medical Evaluation
Direct consultation with a physician or licensed medical professional (physician's
assistant/nurse practitioner) will be provided. During this consultation, each officer will have all
diagnostics reviewed and treatment strategies will be established. The participant will leave with
a full understanding of his or her cardiac risk, metabolic status, and the steps that can be taken
to help ensure a long and healthy career leading into retirement. Comprehensive results and
recommendations will be provided for the participants to share with their personal health care
providers.
Deployment Plan
A repeat partial screening analysis should be done on a twenty-four month rotation so that
effects of program adherence, changes in on -duty performance, and cost/benefits can be
evaluated.
This includes all of the following components:
• Active electrocardiogram (ECG) with physician interpretation and evaluation
• Cardiometabolic stress test with expiratory gas analysis — determines contributions of fat
and carbohydrate metabolism into total daily energy expenditure (indirect calorimetry)
• Advanced lipid panel including cardiac inflammatory biomarker analysis — also includes
overview of hematology, liver/kidney function, thyroid, PSA (men), HbA1 c (diabetes)
• Carotid Intima-media thickness ultrasound (CIMT) — performed on -site and interpreted in
real-time
• Consultation with a mid -level clinician (advanced -practice nurse or physician's assistant)
• Consultation with exercise physiologist
• In-depth nutritional analysis based on individual results of cardiometabolic testing
• Aggregated data report prepared and delivered to command staff containing numerous
data points as a cross-section of personnel health status
COST: $799.00
