• • for that period of time conforming to the limitation of parking time which has been or may be established for that area or zone of the street on which said parking meter is installed and shall continue to operate from the time of the deposit of such coin therein until the expiration of the time fixed as the parking limit for the part of the street upon which said meter is placed. Each said meter shall also be so arranged that upon the expiration of such legal parking time it will indicate by a mechanical operation and by proper signal that the lawful parking period has expired. Section 4: The Chief of Police is hereby instructe' to have lines or marks painted or placed upon the curb and/or upon the street adjacent to each parking meter for the purpose o designating the parking space for which said meter is to be used and each vehicle parking along side of or adjacent to any parking meter shall park within the lines or markings so es- taelished. It shall be unlawful and in violation of this ordinance to park any vehicle across such lines or markings or to park said vehicle in such position that the same shall not be entirely within the area so designated by such lines or markings Section 5 : When any vehicle shall be parked in any space along side of or next to which a parking meter is located and in accordance with the prov sions of this ordinance the operator of said vehicle shall upon entering said parking space immediately deposit or cause to be deposited a 5¢ coin for the maximum legal parking time limit or a l¢ coin for each one-fifth of the maximum limit of legal parking limit es- tablished for said zone except in 12 minute zones only a 1¢ coin shall be deposited to the maximum legal parking time limit. If said vehicle shall remain parked in any such space beyond the parking time limit fixed for such parking space or beyond the shorter periods established by this section for which the lesser amount specified herein has been deposited the parking meter shall display a sign or signal showingflLegal parking and in that event such vehicle shall be deemed to be parked over- time and beyond the time of legal parking time in any such part of the street wherein such meter is located and shall be unlawful and in violation, of this ordinance. Section 6: It shall be unlawful for any person to permit a. vehicle to remain parked overtime or beyond the legal parking tine established for any legal parking zone as herein described. Section 7 : It shall be unlawful and in violation of the provisions of this ordinance for any person to aeposit or cause to be deposited in any parking meter a 5¢ coin or a 1¢ coin for the purpose of increasing or extending the parking time of any vehicle beyond the legal parking time which has been established for a parking space adjacent to which said parking meter is placed. Section 8: It shall be the duty of each police officer assigned to traffic duty observing the violation of this ordinance to take the state vehicle license number of such vehicle , the time and date of such overparking and the make of such vehicle, and issue in writing a citation for il- legal parking in the form and subject to the sane prouedure provided for by the ordinances of the City of Everett applicabl to traffic violation within said City.
